This compressor has never run on its own. I havent gotten enough freon in it to get the compressor running. Low side gauge showing 85lb but not enough to trip pressure switch. I charged into a vacuumed system. So I should return compressor for another?

85 psi seems a bit much to not turn the compressor on.

You may try pulling the battery for a few minutes to reset the computer, now that you at least have enough refrigerant to start the compressor. I know it shouldn't be the case, but I was out of A/C for a while before I realized it was just low and the computer stopped trying until I swapped batteries (that'* how I discovered the problem). Once you do this, it may be time to break out scan tools and test lights to see why the compressor isn't getting power.

Turn your A/C on with car running......remove harness from pressure cycling switch on accumulator....take a jumper and jump the harness...if compressor runs, you need a new switch, because 85 PSI is more than enough to trip the switch...with gauge on low side, if the compressor runs and low side drops below 30 psi, you need more freon.....

Now you need to flush the entire system and replace the drier or you will destroy another compressor.

AC System Flush for 86 Chevy Truck 350 eng.
I am replacing the dryer, compressor, orifice tube in my truck. The system has many metal shavings and debris in it. What can I use to pre flush the system before I use the cleaner that is made for this job. Mineral spirits, alcohol, or lacquer thinner maybe? I think it will take a lot to flush the system properly. Thanks Big Nick
