I do remember from i think my inspection class the state dosent care if you change engines. But it is suppose to have the same emissions rating as the original or better. So a 5.7 prolly wont not make that since they didnt put them in trucks in 02. I would say me personally i would go with the 5.3.

My current 4.3 doesnt have anything emissions really. No egr, no secondary air pump.
Yea i did notice that newer 5.3'* put out quite a bit more power than the 5.7'*.

Ok, with full size trucks getting mid teens to 20+ MPG, I wonder what I would get with just a little *-10? LoL!

My Z71 CCSB does NOT get anywhere close to 20, but I do not have stock tires as they are puny little pieces of crap that do nothing good for the vehicle.

weight is weight for tires. but still i drove an avalanche from here to leesburg, va and got over 20. and the owner of that truck had two av'* and he said they always get that. and when i was driving my dads 2wd it was holding 24-26 instant mpg at 55. so on the highway i bet it should average over 20. everybody i talk to says it. if you have something wrong with your truck or have a impatient driver it will come down.

this one guy i used to work with claimed he could get 24-25. but he was the only one i ever heard say that. he had a auto 2.5 ext cab 2wd, with a bed cover and stock tires. he is a good driver i think though. he sold that after it had a bunch of miles and got a 2.5 colorado same config. and gets the same mileage again when most say they get closer to 20. point is should get low 20'* highway at least

I have 33" tires though and 3.73s. I bet that'* it more than anything.

I called the junkyard this morning and ordered a 5.7 from a 1997 Tahoe. I should be picking it up Tuesday morning. $350.
