Default 3.4 3400 cam bearings

I have a 3.4 Venture engine tore apart and got the old cam bearings out. I see a lip on the 2 inside bearing bores. They identical. I have included a pic. My question is would that lip be there so the bearing can not be installed to far? They look identical in every way is the reason I ask if possible it is suppose to be like that? Please take a close look at the pic and tell me what you think. Yeah I know the inside is dirty and sludged up but I have not done any attempt on cleaning it. Please reply soon.

It almost looks like bad casting.

On another note, I'm surprised that you are attempting an engine rebuild without the FSM. Even the most seasoned rebuilders have manuals.

I do have the factory service manuals. I looked at it more today and I feel that it is the way it is made. I looked at it at level view and both look the same. Do you know if there is any pics floating around of the inside of the block? I will try some how to take better pics tomorrow.

As you can see(maybe) in the pics it is like the cam bearing journal or whatever it is called has made the the square circlaur round groove in the block where the bearing goes. The 2 inside bearings had spun but they were still where they was suppose to be. They did not stick to the cam. In other words they were lose. The bearings were thin but not torn or chewed up. You can not hardly get any quality pics. I wish I could run upon some actual pics of a good block online somewhere.

There are so many of these engines available, cheap, in the junkyards, I would have gone in that direction rather than mess with cam bearings...

Yeah I found a block that suposedly had bad heads for $50. But I hate not knowing what I am getting. I already have new camshaft and everything to rebuild. I will probably get the $50 block and take the cam out and inspect. What do I need to measure the bores or what advice could you give me to check? Please reply soon.
