Default 2015 Colorado 3.5 overheating

We have a 2015 Colorado and the engine overheats and no warm air is blowing into the cab. The dashboard is telling us that the engine is overheating and we need to sit the vehicle for a period of time, turn off vehicle and let it cool off before continuing...... we do that and the engine overheats again very quickly....... is this a thermostat problem? It is my understanding that the thermostat on this vehicle is in the back of the engine next to the firewall and very difficult to get to.......................... (We have no ECM codes but we do have B0233 and B040

Possibly a head gasket failure.

What answer are you looking for? You say it could be the thermostat and it may. Do you plan on checking that? Check the coolant for HC'*. Do something.

What is the coolant level?

Low coolant will lead to overheat and no heat to cabin.

Either way, it would still be good to hear about the coolant level.
