Default 2005 Malibu security problems

Hello
I have a 2005 Malibu base model four door sedan. It is the passkey 3. I lost the ignition key so I bought one off ebay. I installed it and the security light would flash on the dashboard instrument panel when I turn the Ignition on. Also the alarm will sound for a minute or so and then shut off. The car starts then shuts off in about five seconds. I did the 30 minute relearn procedure. The light went off after the 10 minute wait each time but came back on after I tried to start the car. Now when I try to do the 30 minute relearn procedure again the light won't go off after the 10 minute wait. I did the thing where you hold down the door lock on the door panel and turn the switch on and off and it did lock the doors. It won't let me do that again either. After doing all that I decided to buy a door lock & key off ebay. It is from a different car than the Ignition switch. I installed it. Now when the alarm sounds I use the key and unlock the door and the alarm will shut off. Now after Installing the door lock & key the security light is solid for about 30 seconds after unlocking the door then it starts flashing. The car starts then shuts off in about five seconds. Also I am locked out of the radio security settings. I don't know what else to do. If anyone could help me It sure would be appreciated. Thanks.

Now after Installing the door lock & key, "with the Ignition switch off" the security light is solid for about 30 seconds after unlocking the door then it starts flashing. "With the Igniton switch on" it stays solid not flashing.

I think you have Passlock, not PassKey.....
The key is a just a blank key for PassLock....PassKey 3 has a transponder in the head of the key.....

You could have gone to any GM dealership with your VIN number, and they could have cut a blank key for you.....there should have been no need for a relearn....

ok, then I am corrected.....it is PK3.....

So, the vehicle was starting with no problem, prior to losing the key, I assume....

You bought a key off Ebay.....with something like this, it'* buyer beware, because you have no way of testing the key(to see if it works), or if in fact, it is the correct key for your vehicle....many keys look alike......and aren't....

At this point in time, I would bite the bullet, and go to a GM dealership, and buy one according to your VIN.....

Since you lost your Master key, you have to create a master key, by doing the 30 minute procedure....

Apply your ebrake...this will prevent your auto headlights from coming on......put a jumper box across your battery terminals, because you don't know the state of your battery, and if the voltage drops enough, during each 10 minute session, this can affect the programming.....

Turn key to "on" position, do not turn to crank position, and leave on for 10 minutes.......SECURITY/THEFT LIGHT SHOULD GO OUT AFTER 10 MINUTES.....

Turn key to "off", wait 5 seconds, and then repeat first procedure....light should go out after 10 minutes.....

Turn key to "off", wait 5 seconds, and then repeat first procedure....and once again the light should go off after 10 minutes.......

Now, turn key to off, wait 5 seconds, and now attempt to start car, it should start.......

If after each 10 minute procedure, the light went out, and then on the fourth turn of the key, the car did not start, then it'* possible a Theft/Security code is set and will have to be cleared...

If it does start, you now have a "Master Key"......get another key....programming it is easy......insert your Master key, turn key to "on", when light goes out, turn to off, and within 5 seconds, insert your other key, and turn to on......when the Security/Theft light goes out, turn key to off, wait a few seconds and then attempt to start vehicle......now you have a second Master key, in case you lose the first...

Thanks again for the reply I appreciate it.
Yes the car did run and drive before I lost the key. I bought the complete Ignition switch and key off off ebay. No I don't have a way to test it. I am calling garages today to see if they can fix it.
Thanks again

You replaced the lock cylinder(not the ignition switch) and key....is it possible you moved the exciter ring out of position while doing this? If so, that could be your problem....

I replaced the Ignition switch. It came with the passkey module.

Why?

All you needed was a key....

How did you cut the new key without an old key to trace? that'* why I assumed, you bought the key already cut, and the lock cylinder came with it.....

You have introduced parts that may be the problem when all you needed was a key...

You're right all I needed was a key. I was in a hurry to have it towed and needed to unlock the steering. I had to break the switch to unlock the steering and had to buy another switch after I got the car home. Thanks
