Default 2005 Impala steering problems

It just started last week and i'm not sure why. I tried to back out of a parking spot and when i turned the wheel left, the car rose a little bit and there was a low grinding sound and i couldn't turn my steering wheel enough to back out of the spot. I had to turn the steering wheel to the left as hard as i could and turn it back right a few times before i was finally able to get the car out of the spot. When i looked, there was a lot of power steering fluid on the ground. It'* not a constant leak, it just showed up when i had problems getting out of a parking spot.

If my wheels are straight when i park, i don't have any problems backing out of the spot and then turning when it'* in drive. But if the wheels are turned, then it'* a struggle and it leaks. When i drive, it'* not difficult to turn or change lanes and there'* no grinding sound but the steering definitely feels really loose. It takes a little more effort to stay straight in my lane as well. I'm hoping this is an easy fix, as i don't have a lot of extra money right now for car repairs. I've googled this but not found anything similar to my problem. Has anyone experienced this before? I don't know a lot about cars either.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

i havent ever had to do a steering rack but that sounds like your problem there is probably some seal in there that leaks when you are turning jack it up and check for leaks were the tie rod links go into the steering. have someone start it and move the wheel while you are inspecting it

An update if this happens to anyone else. The rack and pinion was broken, it was a $600 fix. Luckily the auto shop worked with me on the price so i didn't have to pay that much out of one check. Anyway, a year later, it broke again in the exact same spot but there'* a lifetime warranty on the part so i only had to pay for labor the second time. Don't forget to get an alignment after you get it fixed! Thanks!
