Default 2001 gp egr

A friend has an 01 GP which is idling at 1500-2100 and cannot accelerate (no power). The local store scanned it and it came up with an EGR code. We replaced the EGR module, disconnected the battery, and restarted but the problem persists. What other things can I look for? This is an L36 3800 engine.

Thank you,
-Shawn

I have seen bad (plugged) cats throw EGR codes in the past. Maybe Bill or Dan have some more insight.
I am actually chasing an EGR code on an 01 Impala L36 as we speak.

Vacuum leaks can throw add codes like that one. So check for those. A cracked EGR tube causes a big vac leak. A plugged cat can cause a lose of power, but high idle, that don't fit. Check the vacuum line on the MAP sensor, this can also cause add power problems. Does it idle smooth or is it rough?
