Hey all, I was looking on the web trying to see if I could fine a non-bose nav unit for my Tahoe. I found some on Ebay $1200? Ouch...! Anybody have one or know of a good place to check into getting on? Those of you that may have one, how do you like it. I generally just use my google nav on my Android phone, but I will have this Tahoe for a while and thought I would look into it.

Why not replace the factory radio with one that has built in nav? You kill 2 birds with one stone.

On another note. There is no telling what is involved in putting an OEM nav unit into one of these things. Its not like 15 years ago and you could just plug-n-play.

Ya, I've tossed around the idea of after market. The reason I shy away from them is because the radio reception on an after market radio never seems to be real good. I've looked at few, but was just going to check for an OEM first. I've actually talked to the local GM shop and as long as you get the right one, after you install it, you have to take your vehicle in for a reprogram to recogonize it. We'll see.. Thanks for the suggestions!

All of my aftermarket radios receive FM just fine. Just have to make sure the antenna adapter is plugged in good and tight.

If you're worried about radio reception though, and you're getting such a high-end unit, why not use Sirius/XM or plug in your iPod/iPhone/Android phone and listen to music that way?

FM? They still have that? Geez, nowadays people are plugging phones, memory cards, Ipods, XM into their car radios to listen to music.

LOL.. Ya.. FM, there are very good FM radio stations around here I like to listen to. Sure I plug in my Android phone and do that as well, XM in my wife'* car, heck even plug in my android phone on my bike. I also don't think if I got an aftermarket radio all my controls for the radio on the steering wheel would work? Not sure, I'd have to check... Anyway, just thought I would put a post to see if anybody knew a good place to get an OEM one. No biggy..! thanks..

Some units can work with OEM steering wheel controls. Not sure on which ones though.

I'll do a little digging. Was looking at some on line and it seems the nicer or higher end ones are about the same price as an OEM. Wasn't seeing though that they worked with any existing steering wheel controls. I use those controls all the time.

I looks like the Kenwood Excelon series does work with the OEM steering wheel controls with an adapter and a little programming. Looks like the higher end Excelon ranges from like $900 - $1200 bucks... May have to run down to the local Kenwood dealer and check them out. It looks like the Kenwood also used the Garmin Nav, that a bonus as well.

Also, almost ALL aftermarkets these days are steering wheel compatible because they come with remotes. Steering wheel control adapters work by taking your button presses, sending through a unit which turns them into a RF remote signal the unit can read as a remote button press, and it does what you want.
