2007 Cadillac DTS 4.6L. Dashboard says transmission is in REVERSE. Shifter is in PARK. I replaced Shifter Assy. still same problem. Purchased GM Park Neutral Position Switch as my next guess as to the problem. Where is that switch located? I don't want to take any more of the parts off, I don't see it. Haynes book is completely wrong on this model car.
Trans in Reverse, no start, put in Drive, no start, same with the rest of the gears. Dashboard indicator does not change from Reverse. I am really in a pickle to get this car going. My wife is going to shoot me pretty soon
Under the hood on the drivers side you will see a shift cable linkage (I will post a picture of it.) See if it is disconnected or if the rubber is missing out of the eye. If it is not remove the cable from the linkage and shift the linkage all the way forward. Let me know what you find.
I am going to put everything back together because there is nothing on top of the transmission that needs replace. I will unhook cable and move forward as CARNAU suggested. I will get back to everyone tomorrow. I am also going to hook up the battery for MIKE and run through the gears trying to start in all gears. Get back to you soon. Thanks for your interest in this.
I think the P/N switch is located INSIDE the tranny....I ran into this once on on a 4T65E.....there was a problem with the signal from the P/N switch and when I went to check it out, there was none...then I found out it was inside the tranny(who'* great idea was that?)....they even changed the name to Transmission internal mode switch.....
I guess Carnau wanted you to see, if the cable was loose or kinked....if not, remove it and manually shift the manual lever to make sure it is in the Park position, fully....if it still doesn't start, then you need a scan tool to read the positions of the switch, or, with a schematic, you disconnect the harness to the TCM, and you read the four circuits to the TCM to see if the proper combination of circuits are grounded for the P and N positions.......there is also a single wire from this switch that goes directly to the ECM that is only grounded in the P and N positions...if this wire is open, The ECM will not think the vehicle is in P or N....
There is actually a small plastic piece in the bottom transmission pan that can break (the piece is only a few dollars and is super easy to replace) if the upper linkage is connected. But before we go into that I want to see if the upper linkage is on properly.
