broken starter
I have a 1999 Deville. Just before Christmas I had to replace the starter.( broken nose cone) February 18 I had to replace starter again ( bad Bendix Today I had to pull starter again (broken nose cone) I have looked at flywheel and can not see any thing wrong with it. What am I over looking? IT had run over a year with no problems. Any help
Good time......I remember my first one...Pontiac/Buick did not have the 4.6 at that time....
CADDY TOWED IN WITH A NO START....so I had to go to the online manual, to find out where it even was....
Between starters, w/p, and thermostats, on engines you were not use to working on, they were a nightmare the first time you worked on them....

I hate this car. new starter and Bendix won't stay engaged. starter makes 1 rev and it kicks out. flywheel still looks good. battery is new, cables are new, starter is new. is this the curse of the Caddy or am I missing some simple problem
I think you have to go to C131, and run power directly to terminal A(circuit #6, purple wire), to see if the starter continuously cranks.....if it does, then your problem is not the starter......could be bad contacts in the Theft relay, PNP switch, or ignitions switch......anywhere you have a bad connection, it creates a voltage drop......if this is the case, you will not get full voltage to the starter.....another thing to do, is backprobe C131 or pierce circuit 6 after C131, to read the actual voltage, going to the starter,,,,,
