Good evening,I'm new here and I have a question,has there ever been a definitive answer to the gas gauge and temp gauge stop working,then decide to?..

Thank you I appreciate it,I just bought my CTS for my daughters boyfriend to have while in college it'* a great car but the gas and temp gauge work then they don't,then they do.

Looks like a pretty common issue for this car. I suspect something in the gauge cluster, or maybe a bad ground. Weird that it happens so much and nobody has figured it out yet.

Are any trouble lights on while the car is running?

I'd pull the cluster and solder all the grounds.

Okay, yeah it would be worth checking ground paths. It'* probably one flaky ground causing poor analog signal for the BCM to interpret.

In the meantime, he can fill it up every 200 miles to be safe from running out of gas.
