Is the sensor called just coolant temperature sensor or does it have some kind of different name? Also out of curiousity what does the P.E.D. stand for? Also for now should I avoid turning the car on? Thanks a lot in advance for all your help with this guys!

SImple to replace. Just clean around it and use a crescent wrench (if it fits) and remove it. Use thread locker and/or pipe tape and pop the new one in.

Yes, the sensor is called a coolant temperature sensor, or CTS. I wouldn't advise driving with it broken, since the PCM will not know how hot the engine is getting.
