Is it true 'the less clearance clutch plates have the better'?
Say if there'* too much clearance in 2nd gear housing, can I just add a friction/metal clutch?

Thanks, I don't I will keep it long enough so that it make sense to buy whole new transmission. Will try to fix this 1st

You don't want them to tight as the will not completely release when the trans is hot and you burn the frictions.
That'* why we measure and use various thickness steels to get them within specs.
