Default Post Transaxle Replacement Problem

I replaced the transaxle on my 99 Lesabre with one with 53,000 miles on it from a reputable salvage yard. That solved the problem I had with the original trans, but now I have a new one. It takes more engine than normal to get it going from a standing start and doesn't act normal until over 30 mph. It also shudders a lot when getting up to speed and somewhat afterwards.

Now here'* what gets me. It doesn't make any difference what gear I put it in, it does the same thing. I can start off in 1 and get it up to highway speed the same as I can in D. When in highway speed in D, I can shift right down to 1 with no difference whatsoever. In other words, I have only one gear and changing the selecter position doesn't change it.

Apparently, there is something else on this car other than me and that lever on the range selecter mounted on the trans that makes the final decision as to what gear it should be in, and whatever it is, it'* not working.

And it does this all the time, cold or warm.

Anybody know what it might be and how to fix it? My wife wants to use the car to go to church in the morning and I'm hoping I can get it fixed before then.

Jim

Fixed! It was the range selector switch.

Did you have a bad one or was it out of adjustment?

It was the switch that came with the replacement trans. I installed the switch from the old trans and it solved the problem.
