Transaxle problem diagnosis
I did a little research about common transaxle problems, and heres a list of symptoms and causes :
High shift efforts : Engine peformance related; worn or faulty reverse clutch; worn or damaged accumulator sealing(*)
Harsh upshift : Engine performance related; faulty underdrive clutch; worn or faulty overdrive clutch; worn or faulty 2-4 clutch, worn or faulty reverse clutch; bad gear shfit control linkage adjustment
Harsh downshift : worn or faulty underdrive clutch; damaged clutch seal; worn/damaged accumulator sealings; bad gear shfit control linkage adjustment
Harsh neutral (N) to reverse (R) engagement : shift linkage damaged
Delayed neutral (N) to reverse (R) : engine coolant temp too low
Delayed neutral to drive engagement : engine performance related; worn/faulty underdrive clutch; faulty 2-4 clutch; faulty/worn reverse clutch; damaged clutch seal; damaged accumulator sealing
Erratic shifting : engine performance; faulty overdrive clutch; worn/fault 2-4 clutch
Buzzing noise (shifts only) : chipped gear teeth ; planetary gear broken; bearings worn/damaged
Drives in neutral (while moving) : clutch plate clearance insufficient; faulty cooling system
Harsh torque converter shift control : clutches dragging ; faulty reverse/low clutch; worn underdrive clutch
Hopefully some of that can help some people going through the transaxle blues..

Last time I checked, the 4T60-E doesn't have a 2-4 clutch. Did you mean 2-4 band? And I have no clue at all what an underdrive clutch is. Our trannies have:
2-4 band
Reverse input clutch
Overrun clutch
Forward clutch
Forward sprag
3-4 clutch
Lo-roller clutch
Lo-reverse clutch
Throw in a couple of shift solenoids, TCC and a manual positions switch and you're all set.
