Just as a matter of curiosity. In front of the vacuum manifold, and below it, is a plastic fitting that goes into the intake of the upper intake manifold - an infamous plastic device.

The plastic fitting is part of a tube that comes directly out of the Exhaust Gas Recovery (EGR) valve. The metal tube and plastic fitting direct exceedingly hot exhaust gasses directly from the exhaust manifold and back into the upper intake manifold. It is not unusual for the hot gasses to melt the plastic fitting and/or the entry port of the upper intake manifold.

The plastic fitting has three tabs (it is supposed to have three tabs, I broke one off replacing the upper intake manifold) that you are supposed to twist into a locked position in the receptacle in the upper intake manifold.

Since I broke a tab, and since the fitting would not stay in place and since without the proper vacuum the engine will not run, I used a large amount of high temp red silicone sealant to put theplastic fitting in place and seal the plastic fitting to the receptacle.

GM discontinued that part - the metal tube to plastic fitting - quite some time back. I do not know of an aftermarket supplier. Salvage yard owners, not being dummies, will not sell that part unless you buy the whole engine (the engine will not run without that part).

Does anyone know if someone makes that part or makes some way to fix the plastic fitting? Red high temp silicone is really not an acceptable way to fix this.

Thanks for any advice or help. This is a VIN Code L series I (not series II or series III) 3800 V6.

You have all the information you need. Check and make sure your 10 amp fuse is good and that the heat/ac module is getting good power and ground.
