Inner tie rods
Hi I am new to the gm forum and I have a 1997 buick park ave. I ran into a serious issue I cant get the inner tie rod off. I already tried the tie rod tool and I couldnt break it. I cant find one that I can use an impact wrench on, only the ones that are manual. anybody know how I can get this off? I have an impact wrench...does anyone know where I can get a tie rod tool for GM that I can use my impact wrench on?

My Alldata subscription is for a 1997 Bonneville, but this should work with your Buick also.
- Shock dampener (13) from inner tie rod assembly (12) and slide back on rack.
- Inner tie rod assembly (12) from rack assembly as follows:
-
- Place a wrench on flats of rack assembly.
- Place another wrench on flats of inner tie rod housing.
- Rotate inner tie rod housing counterclockwise until inner tie rod (12) separates from rack.

Thanks for the info...but it seems like it would be kind of difficult that way considering im using a jack with no one to hold the rack... Is there any other tool out there I can use?

Yes, it'* called a "cheater" bar, or in this case of 4' long piece of pipe that fits over the handle of your ratchet wrench. Put a jack stand or some other type of support under the tie rod tool just inside the wrench and use a long piece of pipe for leverage.

I don't think so. The tie rods are not rotating assemblies so there would be no purpose in reversing the threads. Take a look inside the replacement part you bought and that will tell you for sure.
As far as I remember, they are not reverse thread. Should be left to loosen.

Soak it with PB Blaster a couple of times over 24 hours?

I went with a tool from Harbor Freight Tools, it is not the best quality tool though, I had to grind mine a bit to get it to work right, there is a possibility I just got a poorly machined one.
I did not do a clean job of grinding my tool, but it still worked in the end, if it was a head, or intake, then I'd have taken my time grinding on it..

When you are done be sure to have the front end aligned, usually runs around 60.00 depending on location.
If you get the tool and need help with using it I'll try to explain how, it is not too hard.
Oh yeah, left to loosen the tie rod..
