i performed extensive searches on both google and b/c but i couldn't find definitive info on how to change out my heater core. it blew this past weekend...it'* bypassed rigth now...but do i have to completely rip apart the dash (as i had to on my taurus)? please tell me no!

I may be able to help. I have the 97 H-body FSM'* and will look to see what is in there for ya

If it'* the same as the Bonneville, and it should be, you won't have to remove the dash. There is an access door for the heater core. Here'* a couple of pics of a 93 which is very similar to a 97. These pics were taken after dash removal for clarity.





There'* only two screws that secure the heater core cover but the top one is a little tough to reach. You will have to also remove a couple of items to the right of this assembly to remove the cover and core such as the HVAC programmer and bracket.

Hopefully this will help. Scroll down for your appropriate year. Basically the same as the FSM. The autozone website is good for many other repair procedures as well.

Your welcome! Sorry, I didn't jump in earlier. Didn't mean to leave you hanging (I sometimes forget that I have the "H-body" manuals ) Use the autozone site when you can. It is 100% an on-line Chiltons. Diagrams and steps are word for word. Also, PM me in the future if you need something from the service manuals, so I don't "overlook" you in the "Other H-bodied Cars" section.

got the old one pulled yesterday...going to purchase a new one probably tomorrow. quite an easy task i might say...compared to the 88 taurus. that thing was literally three days solid

i can tell you that i will definitely install screw clamps inplace of the spring jobs. those things were by far the most difficult part of the job.

Again, I will look up anything I can for you, anytime. All I ask is that you check the Autozone site first, then either post or PM, me with questions/requests. (Good thing you have a 97 although I have noticed in the FSMs that they will probably work for 96-99.)

The Taurus sounds like too much fun.........not and don't even get me started on spring/tension clamps
