Gear selection lights not working

I have a 2004 Buick Regal LS. Recently the gear selector letters under the speedometer do not light up during the day. The lights are fine at night. How do I trouble shoot these lights?

I had this happen on my Buick LaCrosse. I would make sure the instrument cluster light fuse is good. Whenever I messed with mine it started working right again during the day.
