Default Fuel Smell - 2001 Lesabre

Hi Guys

Today , when I got home from the gas station I smelled a fuel from the trunk area .
I open the fuel pump cover and I saw a kind of leaking , I don't know from where , maybe you can help me ?
I notice that the black cover don't close to the end , look the circuit in the picture...

Yes, the lock ring is not on correctly......was the pump ever replaced or the sender replaced? Could be the seal is leaking......should have set an evap code, though....

However, the smell could be coming somewhere besides there, possibly near the opening on the fuel tank....

But right now, I would disconnect the lines, pop the ring off, and lift module enough, to replace the o-ring between top of tank and module(makes sure no dirt in groove .....I usually coat ring with petroleum jelly)......then install lock ring correctly....
