Default Catalytic Converter

The converter on my 2000 Limited Federal emissions is breaking up. No codes but it is quite noisy. I have a quote from a few reputable shops for around $350 to do the job.

Wondering if there is a recommended brand to use or to avoid. I see Walker, Eastern & Bosal out there. I have a new O2 sensor for them to install while under there. Any thoughts?

I would not use any aftermarket cats. They just don't last.

Every site I went to says GM 25700228 is discontinued & no longer available. Do you have a source?

These cats were made by a third party for GM. The original was discontinued a few years ago. Guys that do a lot of emissions work tell me they use cats from a CA supplier and the cats are all CA approved. It'* said they last a long time. I'll get some numbers for suppliers and report back in about 24 hours.

The ones that are CARB compliant and good legal in CA are good.

Here'* the info for buying from a CA supplier.

Lewis tells us this....
gary or his wife mel , usually answer the
phone . it may take a moment , but drop my name , and
hopefully they'll connect the dots . "lewis the smog guy" .

send me a note if you have any problems/issues regarding
shipping , or the like . . they're good people .

A1A performance exhaust . 707-586-6691 .

######End Lewis note

I would think the ones from Rock Auto that are CA legal would be similar to the ones from A1A Performance but call them and see what price they have.

Not intending to be contrary, I've used Magnaflow cats for years, both Federal and CA. Never had an issue on at least five vehicles with probably 200,000 miles between them so far. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

$350.00 for a single cat in a LeSabre seems a little steep, but not horrible. Magnaflow.com shows between $130 and $175 for a Universal for yours, plus probably an hour labor to hack out the old one and weld in the new one. Maybe your area has disposal fees etc.?
