Hello, I am looking for info from gm flat rate techs, does it really take 10 hours to do an LTG oil pan? I am a ford technician of 4 years. my shop allows personal work on Saturdays during business hours, I want to know if I can get it done in a day, as my buick is my only car and daily. Any shortcuts, tips appreciated

I haven't had the pleasure of doing one of these yet. Looking around it seems that you have to move a bunch of stuff (covers, accessories, etc.) to be able to get the pan out, and I believe the engine has to be lifted a few inches. The exhaust fasteners will probably be the worst of it.

Uber can help with not getting it finished in time as far as transportation goes. To do this in a single 8-hour shift might be cutting it close, especially if your shop expects the rack to be open again on Monday. Maybe someone that'* done a bazillion of these would have more of a guarantee.

I would suggest that you take a longer approach to it. Start soaking exhaust fasteners with your favorite penetrating oil a couple of weeks in advance, at least daily while everything is cool enough that it can soak for a while. On the first Saturday of the soak cycle, put it up on a rack and start trying to loosen all of them. Next Saturday do the same. Make it so that this known variable is easy when zero hour arrives, and you hopefully don't have any breakage. While you're under there doing that, you can start looking around for whatever else and plan your attack.

Maybe, if you can, throw it on a rack Friday night when your other duties are finished. Pull all the easy stuff and soak all of the exhaust fasteners again before the boss kicks you out. Uber home then back on Saturday morning with a head start.

Perhaps someone that has done a bunch of these will chime in here.

You might want to have a good service manual handy for all of this. Not fun being in a limited time window and having something dumb hold you up, right?

I've been out of the business to long to know. I remember these being several hours on the older models. I would call a few shops and get estimates to get a feel for pricing.

Yeah, the W-body Regals had to get the subframe out of the way for an oil pan change if I remember correctly.

The Epsilon Regals have some interference from accessories and also some other cross-bolting in the way, and the pan can't come straight down without lifting the engine first. From what I can tell looking around online.
