i have a 2001 lasabre and while f=driving the steering feels sloppy and wanders. what could be an issue that i ban start looking at to resolve?

Release the steering and with the key on engine off how much play do you have before resistance when turning the wheel? Best to have someone look under the hood and see if the shaft is moving. If it were in the air you would also look to see if the inner tie rod moves at the same time. Process of elimination.
