Default Black Death

I have a 1989 Buick Electra that the A/C system had already been converted to R134a. After owning the car for a year the A/C stopped cooling; mechanic found a leak at the compressor. Upon tearing into the system, the dreaded black death was found. Mechanic flushed system and replaced compressor, accumulator and orifice tube. Here in South Arkansas the summers get very hot and humid so A/C to me is tops in driving pleasure of my cars.been told that I should have replaced everything from the fire forward, hoses and condenser. Has anyone had a recurring failure with just replacing 3 A/C components after the "black death?"

I would have put in a pancake filter ahead of the orifice tube......
