apparently neither me or my dad are getting the right mpg, any suggestions?

I agree, that is a bit better. you mentioned transmission issues in the video also. I wonder how much that is hurting the fuel mileage as well.

21 doesn't sound too bad for your driving you described. During the summer months here with the A/C on 100% of the time I was averaging 20-21mpg with pretty much all city driving, and my city driving is about as bad as it gets. 0-50mph from light to light, and on a normal 10 mile drive I hit around 10 lights, so you can see how many times I have to start and stop..and I do not drive with a light foot.
Now that it is cooling off a bit and I don't need A/C, I have been averaging 24.2 mpg over the last 1100 miles.
Keep in mind I have a FWI (fender well intake) and that has helped with my mileage as well..it gave me about a 2mpg increase.
I also took video the other day on my phone (which I can't seem to get onto my computer yet) with the cruise set on the interstate at 77 mph. I was getting between 35-37mpg on the instant MPG the whole time I was driving at that speed. I later set the cruise at 50mph on a different road and was getting 45-47mpg the whole time.
No coasting, just a steady speed on a level road with the cruise control set.
hybrid? Psshh, who needs a hybrid

Gas mileage is a brain thing - mostly based on your driving habits. Such as seeing a red light ahead and lifting or staying on the gas until you get there. Getting to speed and lifting ever so lightly without reducing speed helps loads. Driving 3 mph less than needed to get where you go adds up. When moving off, accelerating, picture an egg under your foot and applying just enough pressure to stay with traffic without breaking the egg. Not varying throttle pressure but staying absolutely constant with very few corrections. Etc etc etc. I learned these habits many moons ago when they had vaccuum operated mpg gauges. It'* basically a tradeoff between performance and economy and performance isn't needed when commuting or shopping. I always get gobs better mileage (and much longer brake life) than those around me.

Now my bonneville on the other hand, I do not drive conservatively at all, except for the coasting part, as I am not a person that likes to slam on my brakes. Now I don't drive like I am racing from light to light, but I don't drive the way mentioned above either. How I am averaging just over 24mpg continues to boggle my mind each day. With that average over the last 1100 miles I would say it has been 70% city and 30% hwy
I have noticed that with these cars driving them easy or driving them like I normally would only means what seems like a very minimal change in gas mileage, at least on my car. The 3800 motors just keep surprising me with how great the mileage is. If I was driving this car like I do the trailblazer, I bet I could squeeze a little more yet out of her.
Going to be driving up to orlando in two weeks so I will reset my average and see what she does on a long interstate trip. I'm hoping to average 30+..we shall see
