Default '96 Riviera outside my work - needs help!

Someone parked their car outside my work yesterday and couldn't get it going. Today they came back and I helped them get it started (jumped it). Battery is bad, best I can tell without any tools or equipment with me.

The most noticeable thing was a BAD rattle I noticed right away, coming from the supercharged 3800 Series II motor in there. At first I thought it might be coming from the supercharger, but closer inspection makes me think it may be the harmonic balancer. Car stalls frequently according to the owner.

The women made a not so joking comment about leaving the keys in the car in the hopes that it will get stolen.

- question 1 - The rattle is really loud and seems to go away on hard acceleration in nuetral. Can anyone tell me if that sounds like the harmonic balancer or not?

- question 2 - should I see if that woman wants to sell it to me for a token amount as a fix and sell project? Opinions?

Oh, and I wasn't sure if this topic went in here or in the Lounge, so if it needs to be moved, please do so.

That'* the first thing that came to mind after reading about the problems some of you guys had with the balancer.

And Pat, I'm actually entertaining the idea...until Liz finds out and kicks my ask, lol.

Sounds like a balancer to me too, and possibly in need of a new crank sensor as well...

Could be a swap into the 91 SSE

Agree with the others on all of it. Balancer maybe took out the crank sensor. And, yeah, pick that bad boy up cheap if you can; tell the wife you got it for her.
