Default 2002 Century-gauge problems

I'm having a little problem with my car.. It will only show that its in gear in reverse, drive, and 2nd only. When the shifter is in park, neutral, 3rd or 1st, the light around the gear doesn't come on. This seems like its disabling some features, like the auto door locks, and it don't turn off traction control in 1st, like it should. I took a video to better explain my problems.

Does anyone know what my problem is??

Thanks in advance guys,

Travis.

So could it be a fuse or maybe just a loose plug?

Well, its definitely not a fuse.. tonight, after talking to a friend with my car idling, it started working intermittently, then stopped working altogether again. For a while, it seemed like movement on the passenger side of the car would cause the light around the P to flicker.. I might take a look up through to see if I can see anything funky.

Having recently diagnosing another similar issue, I'd say it'* wiring to the park neutral switch. Check the connector on the driverside of the transmision and wiggle that and toward the pcm to see if there'* any change in behavior. Find the wire and fix it up.

By looking at the above diagram. You should be able to see which pin effects the gears missing. Then go after that one wire.

I found the on the transmission, but I don't know where the pcm is on this car..

My car has an aftermarket remote start/keyless entry that was installed before I got it. Could that be a factor too? I looked at the control module for it, and everything was attached, and looking good.

Sorry for any stupid questions, I don't know a lot about computers in cars..

The computer will be located inside the airbox under the airfilter area.

As for the remote starter. It'* possible. The starter will want a wire hooked to the park/neutral switch or wiring to know that the car isn't in gear.

Thanks. I'll have to check that out tomorrow. I haven't tried the remote start since I've been having this trouble.

i dont remember wiring any remote starts to that because the car wont start in gear to begin with. the pcm may not be there, thats for h bodies. w is by battery sometimes, but the small bodies ga'* and cierras, who knows its like 10lbs of you know what in a 5lb bag. if you cant see it from the engine bay i would look under pass side dash. look for a big or several big bundles of wire

I looked under the passenger side of the dash earlier and i couldn't see it there. Same with around the battery. Thats not to say it isn't there, I just never had enough time to really look for it. I'm going to put the car in the garage tomorrow, and with the help of a friend whos more knowledgable when it comes to computer/electronics than me, try harder to find and fix the problem.

This car has caused me more troubles than my dad'* 04 Century with almost double the kms. Nothing major, just minor things like this.
