Hello All,

I just purchased a Park Avenue from my Grandparents and have been fairly pleased so far. However, the oil light will blink on and off periodically and it'* been getting more frequent over the past couple days.

I've been keeping an eye on the oil pressure guage, and it will drop to 0psi for a second or two and then spike up to 70psi or so and the drop down again. I'm 99% sure it'* the guage because there are no signs of other problems. The car was only driven 2,000 miles in the last year and did sit in the garage for a while (not sure if that might be a cause) though it was started and run for a few minutes periodically (monthly?).

Just wondering what the cause might be and how to go about fixing it. All help is appreciated!

My money is on the oil pressure sending unit. They are prone to failure. Either they go wacky like yours is doing, or it fails and leaks oil like mine did...

I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Mine gave both high pressure readings, yet leaked like the Valdez.
The new sensor I bought was a real GM part..the best way to go.
All works great now.

Agreed with those above, especially the part of going with the original oil pressure sender/sensor, I bought a BWD one and had issues similar to what you are describing, once I replaced it with the OE AC Delco sender/sensor, it was back to the way it was working before.

I see two sender'* listed on RockAuto, and I believe the original is ACDELCO Part # D8048, that one is delayed due to being in another warehouse, that makes me think it is most likely the original one, but get a look at the one in there now, and try to see exactly what it looks like, I'll attach pics of each sender with part numbers.
The one mentioned above is harder to find, so if that is the one you need you'll have to order it from RockAuto.

My brother was replacing the plastic elbows on the coolant line (I noticed the car was leaking coolant last weekend) and somehow something must have been set right again with the oil pressure sensor. The oil guage is reading steadily again, and there are still no signs of an oil leak. I'm going to leave it as is for now until it starts dinging at me every 5 seconds again while I'm driving . Really appreciate the help, and will definitely use this thread as a resource if(when?) the problem returns.
