Default 2001 Park Ave ABS problem

01 Park Avenue base developed a bad front left hub a few months back and begin to display an ABS fault. I had both front hubs replaced and the ABS problem cleared up for a short while. It came back in a week or two and I had the codes checked and the results were C1225 and C1232. After poking around underneath I discovered that the left ABS sensor harness had dropped down and was rubbing against the left axle to the point the corrugated cover was worn through and one of the wires was down to one or two strands. Replaced the harness with a new AC Delco kit and am still getting the ABS fault light. Also, I have noticed that the ABS module seems to be cycling under light braking (noise plus brake pedal vibrating). The ABS light doesn't illuminate immediately when driving, may be 3-4 minutes or may be a longer time period. I haven't had the codes cleared yet. Should I do that and see what come up after a day or so of driving?

The sensor and harness issue is the reason the ABS module is cycling for no reason. Fix that and the phantom antilock should go away.

I replaced the no-name front hubs with a set of Moog hubs in March. Would the short in the left harness damage the sensor in the hub?

Clear all codes and if it sets a new code tell us the code.

Went by my favorite independent repair shop and it'll be Wednesday or Thursday before they'll have time to plug in a scanner.

Shop checked codes this morning and it was showing an intermittent signal on the FRONT RIGHT (I didn't get the code #). They removed the plug from the sensor and cleaned both sides with brake cleaner and it seems to be working ok now. I'll drive it until the fault light comes on again and get the code number then.

That didn't last long.... Back to the ABS fault light within a 100 feet of putting it in drive. Time to get the VOM out and check the right hub speed sensor for AC output.

Photos below are of the original LEFT harness. In the second photo the splice has been worn down by contact with the axle

original factory splices

Splice contacted axle and was worn down to wire separation

That'll do it.

Got the shop to read the codes this morning and they are: C1222, C1226 and C1233. A couple of weeks back, I jacked up the right side and checked for AC output from the WSS and it seems to be working.

At this point it seems that the most likely culprit is the harness.
