EB, you SHOULD NOT have to replace your pan gasket....it is re-useable....
The only way a pan gasket leaks, is either the bolts are loose or someone overtorqued it, and mis-shaped the pan(this can be checked by putting a straight edge over the pan to check for high spots....), from a previous transmission service...
Dextron VI is the fluid that should be used, not III....

Did the filter pipe seal fight you coming out? The last two I've done (4L60 & 4T60) were really stuck up in the bore. The last thing I wanted to do was scratch the surface of the filter seal bore surface. Never had any stick like that before.

I've noticed that they seem to stick a lot more when they're hot. I try to always do mine cold (like 60 degrees not like super-scrape-ice-off-pan cold) and besides not getting myself cooked in hot oil the filter comes out with little effort.
