I have a terrible clunking noise in my 1999 PA. I jacked it up and looked it over pretty good and found that the rear suspension support assembly moves (like more than an inch) when I put the jack under it right at the point that support is bolted to the frame , in front of the wheel. I took the body mount bolt out and looked at the body mount. It is not torn or broken like I expected. While I had it apart I noticed that the lower control arm pivot bushing appears to be badly worn, likely the cause of the clunking noise on rough roads. Looks like at a minimum I will need to replace the busing on the control arm. The suspension support is really rusted, to the point where there are holes rusted right thru it. Has anyone else had this problem ,and if so can the support be replaced? I hope this is not a death sentence for an otherwise beautiful car!!!

Here are some pics of the rear support (crossmember). It doesn't look as bad in the pics as it does in person but you can see the hole near the center where the exhaust pipe passes thru. I think I found a new part on line. I ordered it, hope they have it. Most sources say it is NLA. It looks like a lot of work but, I don't have a lot of choice. If that thing should fail while I am driving it I think all the rear components would be destroyed. That'* if it did not cause an accident.

I replaced the rear crossmember and it is driving fine now. There was a lot of confusion about the part numbers. The part number for a 99 PA was 8890012. That part is no longer available. I spoke to three dealers and none could help me. the suggested

I find one at a wrecking yard. As bad as the one I had looked I didn't think I was going to find one in good shape. I finally found one on E-bay that was for a 2001 model, part #25731513. There were apparently some changes over the years that affected the lateral arms. I though if I found one for a 2001 I could upgrade the lateral arms to match the crossmember since the lower control arms were the same part for all years . As it turned out when the crossmember arrived it was exactly like the one in the 1999. I put it in and adjusted the cams to match the way they were in the original crossmember. It seems to drive just fine. I don't think I will bother getting it aligned. By finding the part on ebay and getting the new cushions on line I was able to get all the parts for $350. It was a lot of work. I suspect getting this done at a dealer would have been over $2k.
