Default 1998 LeSabre Steering Rack & Pump Clearance

1998 Buick LeSabre

Does anyone know if I can pull the steering rack out without dropping the back of the subframe to get more clearance?

In a writeup I saw on Autozone'* site it was mentioned, but it was a generic writeup and I've seen cases before on other cars where that was mentioned but there was enough clearance without doing it.

How about the steering pump? In that generation they decided to move the pump halfway down next to the firewall, sort of under the alternator. Will I have to pull the alternator to get clearance? There'* a picture of where the alternator isn't about 1/3rd of the way down this page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/242775...buick-lesabre/

I didn't have a need to pull the steering rack but the pump can be removed without taking the alternator off. You have to either pull the pulley off first or take the water pump pulley off to get enough clearance to massage it out by pushing it past a line and wire loom sitting on the wheel well hump.
