Test drove a GXP this weekend
I agree about the DEtuned Northstar via CPU. I test drove one about a month ago. I stepped out of my stock 94 Eldorado for the test drive. The GXP'* handling is almost supernatural (I used to have a 97 GTP GP). But I stepped on the peddle at low speed and was very disappointed. My Eldorado would take it without even trying (I can't turn off my traction control). The dealer told me that Pontiac and Cadillac had a law suite going on about the use of the Northstar engine and name. Pontiac won (obviously) but they are not allowed to use the Northstar name anywhere on the outside of the car. I personally don't believe Pontiac wants to use these Detuned Northstars, I think it'* all that they can get from Cadillac. A full power Northstar in a GXP is meant to be.

ELDORADO,
Pontiac is using the de-tuned Northstar because if everyone knew about the Bonneville having 300+ hp'* under the hood, NOBODY would buy the overpriced STS. Besides, the bonnies are better cars. I don't know anyone who hasn't had their caddie in the shop a lot of the time. The bonnies are fantastic, put gas in and drive, change your fluids, do a tune up and enjoy.

I also don't think people paying top dollar for an STS are going to be swayed to a Bonny due to a few more horses. And so far I've had more go wrong with my 97 GTP than with my Eldorado.
