Hello, I'm new to this forum as I just purchased my 2005 GXP last week. It has about 16K miles (and one burned out fog light apparently )

Anyway, last week I was slowing to a stopsign at about 5 mph in a parking lot and applied the brake. The car made some loud vibrations and noise as I held the brake pedal down and didn't do very much in terms of slowing the car down! I sort of rolled past the stop sign. My wife looked pretty scared; I figured the ABS was doing something goofy. No more problems till today.

Today I rolled over a huge dip in a parking lot at about 5 mph and I heard the vibration & rumbling again. I looked at the console and it read "Service stability system".

Anybody know what the heck is going on before i take it to the dealer? Without these problems it has been one of the sweetest cars I have ever owned!

Where do you live? This may be perfectly normal depending on road conditions. The 'Statbility System Active' message will appear if your car detects a skid. There are inertial sensors in the car along with a steering wheel position sensor to help sense loss of control.

I'm in the middle of a freezing cold winter, snow and horribly slippery roads. I'd consider this normal where I am. Now, if you have bare and dry roads, you might want to have this checked.

I live in Albuquerque, the roads were dry and clear.

What you describe sures sounds like the ABS system working but it shouldnt activate on a dry road. Definately something for the Dealer to check out. Do you an active Onstar account tied to your email address? If so hit the Onstar Button and ask for a diagnosis scan. It'* free and the report will go to your email. StabilTrack is part of the diagnosis.

and while you are at the dealership have them replace the forward wiring harnesses on your fog lights. There is a TSB on this very issue. You will keep replacing bulbs one after another until they fix this. TSB is 05-08-42-013.

On the service stabilitylight, when the light comes and car is under warranty, waste no time taking it in.

. I agree completely. Don't get unnerved by the little quirks. Mine has been great in the four months I've owned it. A few people here have a long list of problems, but I'm not sure that is a GXP issue as much as a GM issue.

The other known problem is the Intermediate Shaft clunking. THE MINUTE you feel weird clunks in the steering, especially when turning the wheel at low speed, back to the dealership you go. There is a TSB on that as well.

I think the only other known common problem is with the window regulators, although there are several TSBs listed here http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...r=asc&start=20

hi, i think it could be related to a speed sensor in your hub and bearing being damaged,dirty,worn on the inside of the hub. check for play, = up and down likke to check lower balljoint...chuck

There'* been a few threads on this problem in the 2000 - 2005 section. Sometimes going over a good sized bump, or hitting a large pothole, it will set off that warning. My right rear used to do that, until I replaced the hub. The most common cause has been the steering position sensor.

mine does that at times too. I have noticed it happening when im turning mostly.. COuld it be a warranty item.

Just picked up my car from the dealer. The dealer claims that there were no stored codes and that they couldn't replicate the condition, but that it sounded like the ABS turned on. I am skeptical that no codes were thrown because I clearly saw on the dash "Service stability system". Maybe i will get a code scanner and check it myself next time before taking it in.
