Default Power Steering/Magnasteer Issue?

My power steering in the GXP is acting weird. I am getting a leak at the cap and a good bit of pressure when I open the PS cap. I just had the pump and reservoir replaced. The pump was replaced twice, as the first replacement was bad. On the third PS cap, so that isn't it either.

This is the same problem I had before I had the work done. I had a PS leak from the cap also. Thought it might have been from the reservoir, but it wasn't.

Other issue I have with it is that the steering is heavy at low speeds. Now, it is not unturnably heavy, but it sure doesn't feel like the Magnasteer is doing it'* thing. As soon as I am moving, the steering lightens up. My mechanic scanned it and said he didn't see that it was changing the steering settings as he drove it.

Final thing, since I have had the car, the stability control warning has been popping up. The previous owner said he had it scanned at the dealer, and it sounds like the steering wheel position (rotation) sensor is bad. Could this be contributing???

Sadly, I really don't know exactly what sensors Magnasteer uses. Also, does the GXP use the same rack as the SSEi or is it more of a Cadillac part?

As always, any help is appreciated!

Bigerik,

I have a similar problem in that my steering has a "dead"spot when cold. I back out of the driveway and attempt to turn the wheel and it feels almost like it'* locked. It will turn, but its VERY hard to turn back to straight, then it operates fine. I don't have a leak in the PS pump and have replaced most of the PS fluid with Lucas, still no help. I'm curious to hear if you have a solution.

What year of car? it could be the rack/pinion going out. my 1997 GTP did this. then got worse and worse. ended up haveing NO power steering when turning left. and had to change the rack and pinion. I vote flush all the old fluid out. and put new in just to see if that helps.
