The lights dimming sounds exactly like the ALT turning off and on

2.3 Turbocoupe is on a distinguished road

My GXP has always done this; the headlights will get a bit dimmer for a second and then come back up. I suspect this is normal operation. In any case, it can’t hurt to have a good ground to the body.
