Default HIgh Pitch Squeal. Is this normal?

I have a 2005 Bonneville GXP with 19,000 miles on it (mostly highway). When going over 55 MPH, I notice a low pitch, but audible constant squeak coming from the tires/wheels. It sounds like the brakes are hanging up just a bit. Also, when going slow (about 10 MPH), I notice that there is a slight metal grind as well.
Has anyone had these problems before? If so, what has been the outcome? Or, am I just being picky?
I love my GXP, but it has been back to the dealer 7 times since it'* purchase in December 2005. I am disappointed with the problems I have been having.

Thanks,
Eric

Well you have me beat by one visit and and one month of ownership but I have to say that things have settled down. It sounds to me like your one of your pads is hung up, probably the inside one. I would get it checked out.

Dont sweat it!! The problems eventually stop. I had no problems for the first 11000 km'* then I went through hell for a few months. Now everything appears to be fixed properly. As frustrated as I once was I still smile when I fire up the engine and it is fun when people pull up beside you and ask what kind of car it is.

Well, I took the car to my local dealer today. They indicated to me that the squeak was being caused by a caliper hanging up. They fixed the caliper and put some "Brake Gel" on the rotors to help eliminate the squeak. I guess I will have to see how good the brake gel works.
Stay tuned...............

the brake gel is a goop that they put on to fill any small voids in between parts, because you can not create a noise without a vibration, and you cant create a vibration without a space for it to occur, so they put lubricant on certain parts to help fill in this space

Default Brake Squeal- Updated

Well, after two back to back visits to the dealer, they hopefully fixed the problem. They ended up doing the following--

1. Replacing the front brake pads with ceramic brake pads
2. Replacing the front and rear brake rotors
3. Repacking the wheel bearings

I have contacted GM and I am working with them to buy the car back. So far, they are not pushing back. I love my Bonneville GXP, but I am convinced I have a lemon! Since December 2005, I have had the car back to the dealer 10 times for warranty issues. I will keep you all posted. Thanks for all fo your feedback!

Good luck getting GM to buy back the car. 10 times for warranty issues is hardly enough for them to consider buying it back but then again I am not suprised by anything these days. I know form experience its a very long uphill battle in the end.

Seems like you have a good dealer willing to do the right thing to correct your problems. Funny you claim to Love your Bonneville GXP but want a GM buyback due to small problems that happen to any car. With the GXPs value dropping like a brick sounds more like you have buyers remorse than you being stuck with a lemon.

Shadow,
Thanks for the reply. Actually, my dealer has two 2005 Bonneville GXP'* left. I am hoping/trying to cut a deal with GM to swap my car out for one of the two.
You are right, it is going to be long road with GM, but I still think it is worth pursuing. If I cannot swap the car out, I would be happy if GM offered me an extended warranty at no charge and allowed me to keep the car. This may be a better option for everyone.

Thanks,

Does the GXP have separate bearings that can be repacked, instead of being sealed within the hubs?
