GXP Rims Questions
I'm buying a 2005 GXP and the previous owner had the stock rims chromed, so I'm looking for something to run in the winter, and I'm curious, will 17" rims clear those brake calipers or does it have to be 18"? I'd like to pick up a set of stock GXP painted rims to use, but if not, I will look aftermarket and wondered if 17" would work. If you know of any places that have a decent price on stock GXP rims LMK-TIA!
Are the calipers the same, though? Those GXP calipers are huge (I'm guessing 2 piston at least?), so I'm just not sure if a 17" wheel will clear them. Maybe I can track someone down with 17" bonne wheels and do a test fit before I order anything.
I don't know for sure, but I doubt the SLE has 14" rotors. The GXP can break a hustle pretty quickly with those binders. I would look for a painted set of stock 18'*, but as far as all the GXP'* I've seen, none have aftermarket wheels.
17 inch Rims will fit on the GXP. Just ordered a set of 17 inch rims and they fit fine. They isnt alot of clearance but nothing to worry about. If you look in the trunk you will notice the spare is a 17 inch rim.
Didn't even think about checking the spare, good thought! I ended up buying a factory painted set from Detroit Wheel & Tire (on ebay) for $800. GM list is $450 per rim and even wholesale from my dealer was $325. I'd have spent $800 on aftermarket anyway, so I just went for the stock ones.
Holy cow, $800 for a set of winter rims?! Now *that* is true dedication for your chromies. I sold my stock Aurora wheels for just over $100 and I thought I made out good.
