Default GXP going in

For some warranty issues. Strut boot came loose and makes noise, OIL FREAKING LEAK WHERE THE LINES HOOK TO THE ENGINE, heated seats don't work, and the dreaded clunking in the steering. Not happy about the oil leak at all. This thing has only 28K on it. But the worst thing??? I might have to sell the damn thing cause my wife and I just found out we will be having twins!!! Doh!!

I have about 53,000 km (33,000 miles) and had my oil cooler lines replaced twice, tranny lines once, intermediate steering shaft, compass module, fairly major transmission work, timing cover seal, door water deflector, air in tires.

Maybe this is the new gray curse of the GXP'*?

Lets see what I have done to mine. hmmm

Engine mounts
Strut mount and strut
Foglights and harness
Transmission was kinda clunky reverse to 1st gear(they thought it was the mounts)
and more but cant remember.

I'll chime in:

rear strut and strut mount
steering shaft
fog light/harness
homelink garage opener
coil pack for cylinder 5
driver information center controller
moonroof leaks
transmission mount

ALL DONE IN 2007!!!!

I'm actually going to buy my extended warranty tomorrow because
factory one runs out at the end of this month.

My 95 with 160K miles has not had this many problems it'* whole life.

70,000 miles. Never had mine in yet. I did replace the gas cap though.

I bought mine with 7k. It’* now got 35k and is in for the 2nd trip. Here are the things that needed to be fixed:

Steering shaft (of course), both trips. Dealer said the redesigned part should last much longer. We will see.
Foglamps – actually I’ve just been replacing those on my own because it’* too inconvenient to bring the car in.
HUD is dim
Paint on the nose was peeling slightly, but according to the dealer nose was repainted so apparently not a GM problem. Car is GM certified so they are fixing it regardless.
Motor mount was broken. I did not know that but the dealer found it. I ran it at the track and it wheel hopped one time about ½ way through first gear, and I bet that’* what killed the mount. I also drive it hard on a regular basis.
Battery needed replaced. The car would start fine unless you left something on, even my radar detector would kill it if left on for more that 8 hours or so. Dealer is replacing at no cost.

The problems on mine are not excessive IMO, and the dealer has been happy to fix them. Overall, I am very happy with the car. I’m not a fan of front-wheel drive, but otherwise the car is fun to drive and reasonably powerful. With the tires at 35 psi it rides a little hard, but you can fling it into a corner and it holds nicely. It runs beautifully at high speed with no vibrations or significant rattles. I like the way it effortlessly steps away from a light when I want to ease out in front of other cars.

If something happened to my GXP, I’d probably get another. Sure, there are cars I’d rather own like the new 3-series, Lexus IS350, or maybe even a Hemi Charger (ugly but roomy and fast). But good luck trying to find a nice used one for 16k. Money talks.

Default 05 GXP

I'll play ..

I bought mine Dec 02 06 and it had 19800 miles. Now at 43,700.

Mechanical repairs - all under warranty or service contract
Had the front motor mount replaced twice (REAL common issue)
Half-shaft under warranty (common issue)
Head gasket (common issue)
Sunroof assembly (annoying; still not right - whistles and leaks)
Replace fog lamp wiring harness (common issue - there'* a service bulletin)
Two fog lamp bulbs (right)
One fog lamp bulb (left)

Stuff I've paid for
Front brake pads
Cabin air filter, then replacement
Windshield (after dealer busted it while replacing sunroof, then said "we didn't do that.")
One replacement Eagle GS-A after hitting a boat trailer fender some guy graciously deposited on I-45 *
Floor mats (don't go cheap here. Already need a new driver'* side mat)
Kuda USA mounting pad for iPod
Front license plate trim panel
Five oil changes (now using synthetic)
Four alignments
Six tire rotate/balance
New wiper blades

Overall, this has been one VERY reliable car, especially given its complexity and price point.

I do drive more like a grandma than a grand prix driver, though.
