Default Going to look at GXP'* for sale

Greetings,

I am looking into a Bonnie GXP as a replacement for my 93' Grand Prix which decided to die last week.

I am going to casually look this week at a few GXP'* in the Chicago area. I haven't ever driven one yet, but I like the large trunk and rear seats. I have a 2-1/2 year old and an 8 month old. Those with kids know how much stuff you need to bring everywhere.

My question is, what are a few things I should be looking for in a used GXP?

I have read about the water leak in the trunk, the valve cover gasket seals, anything else of particular importance? I am going to try and see if the dealers will run the service history for me, not expecting much, so I am going to run down the VIN numbers of the cars I look at.

Thanks, my name is Ken. Pontiac man for sure.

The Northstar is a pretty well, and tightly put together enigine package, put in front of a great tranny (4T80E). The valve cover gasket problem is an isolated issue. Not a general problem. At 36k miles I have had 0 issues with the engine and nitrous a bit. The trunk leak issue is the rubber gasket seating, making sure it stays tight around the top seems to keep mine dry. It did come off the track towards the top once and I did have water in the spare tire well.

Check for water in the trunk, or someone not drying it out good, lower panels on the fender and doors coming loose, pull the back seat and check for corrosion around the ground to the body, there have been a few bottom oil leak incidents (oil coolant lines), and a few rear exhaust loose complaints. Also check to see if the moonroof wind deflector is intact and working. If you find one exceding 75k miles or so, having the dealer replace the spark plugs would be a plus. All in all, After some fitment issues were fixed, I am very happy with the way my GXP is holding up.

Thanks for the advice, I just picked up a 2004 with 13k on the clock. Looking forward to learning about the in'* and out'* of the car. I was suprised at the power, I have a 97' Trans Am that is modified. It'* obviously faster, but this bonnie gets up for a big car.
