Default Brake Pad Mystery

Hey guys,

I have been having major problems with finding replacement front brake pads for my 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0. I am stationed in England on an Air Force base with only one American mechanic on base who specializes in American cars.

I have ordered two sets of brake pads from the states (New York: top name brand/North Carolina:GM, Cadillac dealership). Of course, both pads were similar in design, but the mechanic here said they were the wrong pads. He said they didn't match the ones already on the car. The ones on the car have square tabs compared to hooks on the ones sent by the dealer. I called different dealers and went over part numbers and descriptions, but they swore up and down that brake pads are the only design made for the car.

Ray, the mechanic over here, had me call Discountautoparts.com in New Jersey. The mechanics there seem to agree with Ray and said that if I could send them a picture of the current brake pads, he could match them. They emailed me a picture of brake pads matching the ones I received from the dealer, and said they knew those were the wrong ones and that they had the correct ones. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON???

Could the brakes have been totally replaced from OEM specs? If these guys get it right, I'll be happy, but I still will try to find some answers on what the problem was. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS? Thanks.
