Default Been away for a while...

I haven't been here for too long, so I figured I'd post people an update.

All of the problems with my GXP have been fixed, and since the last time it was at the dealer for repairs, it hasn't had any issues whatsoever. I currently have 62,000 miles on it. HID fogs and low beams are still intact and working great. I took it on a road trip from Chicago to LA and averaged 26mpg at 75mph, so I'm pretty content.

You know what'* awesome? Realizing when I got to Los Angeles that this is a Midwest/East car and that NOBODY around here has one. I have seen only one GXP in the 5 months I've been driving in LA, and I'm a field technician and drive on average 80 miles per day. It gets a lot of nice stares.

Fuel economy the way I drive in the city has now reduced to around 16.5mpg average per fill-up. I'm having way too much fun, so I decided to buy a 3rd car to keep the GXP intact. For that purpose, I bought an 87 Jaguar XJS V12. I'm currently in the process of porting the heads, and with a slew of mods, I should be running somewhere near 290 wheel hp. I'm still doing research on a dual-ECM swap which others have used to reach 350 whp on an otherwise bone stock engine.

I would imagine that I now have the highest mileage GXP on the board, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me. I don't check this board as often, but I check my e-mail several times a day so I'll be able to get back to you asap.

Cheers!

Glad to see you stop by X. Been wondering what you were up to. 62k, eh? Remember these heads like to self destruct @ 100k. Are you up to being the first member to change spark plugs? ROFL.

LOL

I'm up for the spark plugs, no worries, and anything else maintenance related. So far so good.

I probably won't be driving it as hard anymore once I get the jaguar done. Port & Polished intake manifolds, heads, exhaust manifolds, bored downpipes, custom welded 3" intake pipes with dual 10" cotton fiber cone filters, flowmaster exhaust, MSD Blaster II coils, etc. V12 on Flowmasters at 6500 rpm will be downright sick.

Why do you think they put double clad Platinum plugs rated at 100k in to begin with. Reach your hand down the back side and figure out how your gonna get a socket in there.

No, but you do need to pull the engine to change the starter, unless you have some whack *** Jaguar tool.

Yeah, that Jag will roar...so long as I get a new head. I was porting and managed to destroy the first head. The second one is fine...so far.

Default Highest mileage?

Naw, you're not the high mileage champ. I have 70,300 miles on my 05 GXP. Just had some routine maintenance done - upper and lower hoses - about to do the brakes (and thanks for the awesome and timely tips on the brake rotors and pads!) Front motor mount #5, steering half-shaft #2. Mechanic said the OEM serpentine belt was in good shape, which thrilled and surprised me. Not as many rattles and such as I've experienced in other GM cars at this point.

Guy who was riding in it last week said "this car still smells new". I wish, but thanks.

Driving about 80 miles a day myself, been a great car. Planning on a road trip this summer to the Great Lakes.
