head gaskets are a H U G E deal on this car. there known a little more to go out on the 4.6 vs the 4.0, still happens alot on the 4.0

step 1 take out engine

after you take it out, which on this thing isn't a small task, make sure you buy a timesert kit, cause if you put the head back on with those stock bolts, you just wasted your time, cause that thing will overheat / cause way more problems.

shops charge in the area of 2k to 2.5k to do this, there'* a reason they charge that much

about oh, 2 months ago there was a really good aurora forum, gmforums.com, tons of owners. that site magically disapeared overnite. I was a "member" there for about 1.5 years, so ive seen alot of what can go wrong. but trust me, it was not just the 95'* that had problems, they all did/do. only problem with the 95'* where the ones built before june (maybe it was july?) of 94, they had some issues. my 95 was febuary of 95. No idea why the aurora didn't come out as a 94 model, they had it done and magazines where testing them in 93.

don't forget that they decided to save a few bucks and use a plastic fuel rail, when that thing starts to leak, change it FAST.

not trying to scare you, its a generally reliable car, but i wouldn't pass on the warranty

btw the only decent aurora board is on edmunds.com, townhall. its all thats left

I own a 98 Eldorado Touring Coupe with the 4.6 N*. N*'* can eat head gaskets, this is ussually due to poor coolant maintenance. I would recommend draining the coolant. If the old coolant is clean, add 3 GM coolant supplement tables to the lower radiator hose and refill with a 50/50 mix of dexcool and distilled water. If the old coolant is dirty, flush the system first.

If your dad'* car has a coolant surge tank, like my ETC does. Remove the tank and clean it out with mild soapy water, throughly rinse it out after cleaning, of course do this before adding the new coolant.

*Do not forget the GM coolant supplement tables, GM part #3634621. These tablets are a sealant. A package of 6 tablets is about $4 US.

I just had a new radiator installed last October, my fluids are fine. Sounds like regular upkeep on the coolant. Get it flushed and have the cooling system properly maintained.
