Default 2004 GXP oil dipstick

Checked the oil and to my suprise the dipstick is riveted together.

1st time I've ever seen that. Were they saving money at the factory or are they all like that?

All newer GM models are that way, guess they get a bargain making all the tops the same?

I've checked the oil in my 05 GXP a few times in 62,000 miles and never noticed. Had to look tonight. Yep, just like your picture.

I can't imagine why they did that, or how that would be cheaper.

The p/n is 12581226

It is used on 04-05 GXP and 03-05 Cadillacs (but which ones?)

Could be... the p/n was stamped on the "oil" end.

because usually they are all one piece.

I was thinking that my dipstick was at the end of the roll of spring steel and so they pieced it together from the end of the last roll

But since some others are like that, I don't feel bad about it

Chuckling hard about the thought of GM using rivets to use the end of a roll on a $38k car................Then again after my rear seat trunk access panel hinge blew into 4 separate pieces the first time I used it, ........
