i had a pioneer 8200 for a couple years. No problems. pioneers are easy to use and a decently priced. i highly recommend 4volt or better preouts if you plan on adding a sub amp.
personal preferences:
pioneer/alpine deck
boston acoustic/kicker interior
rf sub amps
xtant interior amps
infinity perfects or alpine type r subs
at least 4 gauge power cable
monster cable rcas
possibly a cap or extra battery (optima)

I've only had two brands in my time. A Clarion that was very basic, but as far as quality I was completly satisfied. I upgraded to a Alpine 7864 and have had that ever since. That unit has been in two crashes and never skips.

KENWOOD ,ALPINE,CLARION and ROCKFORD are not all that is out there. If you want the highest output voltage out there ECLIPSE is the only one with a true 5,8 and 16 volt deck. The worst thing you can do is buy a cd player for the wrong reason like : i want it to match my dash or it has really cool graphics on it because when you pull it in to the lane at a show they are going to care less if it matches your dash or if your graphics are cool they are going to care about sound and all you are going to have is a really expensive x-mas tree. Which means nothing to the meter. http://www.eclipse-web.com

Head Units: Kenwood.
On paper Alpine makes a good Headunit, but thier quality is hit or miss, I know from experience. Me and two friends got Alpine headunits that needed warranty work numerous times.
Amps: Again, Kenwood.
I had a Kenwood 4 channel amp running 5 1/4 Infinity Components and (2) Boston 12'* bridged at 2ohm and it NEVER failed once. It would get hella hot when pushed, but NEVER faulted in 5 years I had it. It now pushes 2 RF 10s in my Younger Brothers Town Car.
Mids/Highs: The most realistic sounding are from Infinity. In thier price class Infinity will walk over the competition.
Subs: Boston Acoustics.
While hard to find a dealer, and a little costly, these subs will put anything to shame in the same price category. The best out there! You will not be a lemming with these.
