Default theftlock

i know this has been discussed before, but i could not find anything on 2000+ bonneville cd players in the search feature. i am not sure if the theftlock works similar to older models. anyway, i have a 2001 and just put a factory cd/tape player in and the theftlock was on. i have taken it to two dealerships (one chevy and one pontiac) and they both could not get the theftlock to deactivate. they both held the 2 and 3 buttons down, together, repeatedly, with no luck. the display remained saying "locked". the pontiac service mgr said it may need a scan tool hooked up to find and give the code. he said he will get back to me as they were closing at the time. is this true or is there another way to unlock the unit? any help anyone can give would be appreciated!!!!!!!

I believe the 2000+ do need a scan tool to deactivate the radio....but someone who knows more than me can confirm that
