Default Subwoofer Upgrade

Ok, so i want to upgrade my bass.. Right now i have 2 MB Quart Reverence DVC subs. They sound great, but im ready for the next step..

Can anyone recommend something that i could get to replace them with to step it up a notch? I dont have alot of money to spend so i think i want to go with 1 12inch this time but GO big with it. Also, i would be running this off of my current amp (Kenwood 800w [email protected]) until i can save up to get a real amp.

upgrade the amp first, i imagine youre probably getting around 370w x 1 RMS

you already have good subs, look for a real 1200W amp, and you will be good to go

thing is, finding a cheap 1200 x 1 @ 2 ohm amp is a bit difficult. most amps make their power at 1 ohm. you can get 2 amps and power each sub at 4 ohms

JBL 1200.1, Phoenix Gold Xenon x1200.1 both make 1200w at 2 ohms

Porting requires a larger enclosure. And you'd need to know how to tune to desired frequency.

I was in a similar situation. I had 2 10w0'* in a sealed box, and went to a Diamond D3 12" 400w RMS DVC sub. It'* SOOO much better in everyway. Cleaner sounding, faster, flatter response, etc.

i want loud but i would still like to retain a good ammount of SQ... i dont want it to sound muddy, i want fast beats but still loud. Nothing crazy, but more than my MB Quarts.. (they are discus, i was incorrect in my first post)

I owuld like to keep it under 1500 total but thats the high end on what id be really willing to spend

SO $1k would be a good setup for you?

How good is your woodworking skills? If you can build your enclosures and such, you'll save A LOT of money on that alone.

I'd look for a 12" or 15" with XBL^2 motor technology then. These are things like Atlas, Adire Audio (created the motor actually) Resonant Engineering etc. Don't let the 15" i typed scare you, itll BLOW away any 12" you'll find at any store (save a W7, but those cost more..)

For a more conventional sub check out smaller manufacturers again. As stated I have a diamond audio D3 12" now. With abou the same power RMS as your amp, it SINGS. I'm getting some pr0n now as we speak for you guys.

Why get two smaller ones when one bigger one will play as loud, or louder, and go lower? This was kind of my thinking with my upgrade. Why not get one Ferrari, over two Mustangs?

Your amp only powers the subs with one channel when bridged.
