Default Steering wheel controls?

My 2002 SE does not have the steering wheel controls but does have the factory CD, Tape AM/FM head unit.

Does anyone know if the wiring would be in place to add a steering wheel with controls on it or what else would I need?

On a different note...why did Pontiac not make the control lever controls light up????

Thanks for any help!

When you say control lever, do you mean the gearshift? Or the control levers on the steering column

I mean the control stalks that contain the wiper controls and cruise control.

Looking at the wiring diagram, the steering wheel audio controls connect through the Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil (which then connects to the Dash Integration Module (DIM)). You will likely need a dealer to program the DIM with a Tech 2 to tell it that the steering wheel controls are present. The DIM then sends instructions to the radio via the Class 2 Serial Data Bus based on which button is pressed.

In short, yes the wiring is likely there since it connects through the inflatable restraint system.

Thanks for the info. Now I just have to locate a steering wheel with the radio controls on it!

Anyone know of one for sale?

Thanks!
