Default Aftermarket vs Stock Bose?

2000 SSei with stock Bose stereo and am very happy with it but would like to add a DVD player and option for Satellite adapter and IPod. Can I modify the stock HU or should I go with a new HU and will it be as good as the Bose? Just some feedback would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm not aware of any adapter available that will allow you to retain your Bose amplifier and speakers when installing an aftermarket source unit. You're in almost the exact same boat as I was in with my GXP'* Monsoon system. Radio and factory amp work as a pair. Replace one, you're pretty much replacing the entire audio system. Companies to call and possibly check on development of such an adapter would be Pereripheral, Metra and Soundgate.
