Self- Arming Alarm? - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Default Self- Arming Alarm?

Last night my car was jacked of its stereo head unit. It seems that I forgot to lock the doors of my car in my quiet little nieghborhood. Before I get a replacement head unit I was wondering if there was such an alarm that arms itself say after 10 - 15 minutes when the car is off, just in case I forget to hit the damn little button again.

yes there is such an alarm. I have one myself. It arms itself approx 30 seconds after I shut my doors. I dont know who makes it but I'm sure there are a few alarms out there with that feature. Just go to a stereo shop and tell them what you want.

Yes... having your stereo equipment swiped really sucks.. that'* not a bad idea bout lookin for alarm with auto Arm.. never thought of that.. now do they have a remote starter and alarm that can do that? That'* not overpriced where I have to give my left nut for it.. hee hee..

I too have my stereo equipments swiped out of my car before.. so am contemplating on just simply jackin the in-line converter to the speaker output ( for additional amps ans subs in the future ) to make it look still stock from the outside ( with the stock head unit and steerin control )

Ouch, that sucks. There have been a string of thefts in town this week, the newspaper did a little article about it and what one can do to deter it. At least they didn't have to smash a window to get in.

Actually I think most all aftermarket alarm and alarm/remote-starter combos will arm themselves automatically, either as a programming option or as default right out of the box.

If you're adding any aftermarket system that includes Keyless Entry, connect its Lock and Unlock wires to the yellow and light-green wires (respectively) that attach to the outside key lock cylinder inside the driver'* (or passenger'*) door, instead of connecting to the wires at the interior door lock switch like the instructions probably tell you to do. That way, when you lock the car, it will think you're outside using a key, instead of inside pressing the interior switch, and so it will set the factory alarm system for you. (It will also arm the system if the car is locked using the _interior_ switch, but only if the door is open at the time.)

Best buy sells an alarm system that I cannot afford but my friend bought .. It arms itself after you lock the doors then you have a gps doohikie that tells you if your doors have been unlocked/opend/brokenwindow/interior movement its almost instantanious which is good so you can go out side with a paintball gun and spray them with balls but yeah my friend was inside a shopping mall with me and it went off so we got security and took him with up to the car and caught the guy in the act. This is a very good security system .. it is worth the 750 dollars and the 15 dolar a month service fee because you alse have the option of calling the cops right from your remote. They also sell one that is about 450 that does the same thing but isnt as quik to tell you what is going on. Good luck looking for the right system for you
